Selfie

To create this image I turned the camera towards my friend and me and took a picture.  I think this is a good selfie because we look happy in this picture and it gives me a feeling of happiness looking at it.

Creative portraits

Creating this image was very hard because I we had to time it just right.  It took many times for me to take the picture at just the right time.  To do this, my friend had to put some confetti in her hands and blow them towards the camera.  I also made sure the background was blurred slightly so that it was not distracting.

Portrait Techniques

Alter your perspective.
In this technique, you have to take a picture from a differnent perspective than normal.  I think this would be fun to use in my work because you get to achive very different shots just by moving  your camera around.

Breaking the rule of thirds
In this technique, you can choose the best placement for object by selecting what makes the biggest impact on the viewer and which flows better in the photograph.  I think it would be interesting to use because it is fun to see what placement is the most effective.

Get close up
In this technique, you would cut out part of the persons body or face so that you could get close up.  You can also just chose one particular body part which could add interest and intrigue to the photograph. I think it would be fun to discover what you could do when not photographing the face directly.

Introduce a prop
This includes adding in items for the subject to wear or hold to make the photograph more interesting or have more movement.  I think this might be a little bit of a challenge to make sure the prop will not be taking away from the attention of the subject but I think it will be fun to use props to create a mood or say something in the photograph.

Famous Portraits

dorothy horan, best known as dovima, with elefants (1955) by: richard avedon
I think the photographers style is to take pictures of action or to document important events.
I chose this photo because it made me wonder more about why it was taken and what was happening when they took it.  It intrigues because it is different from all the other portraits I have seen so far.
Marilyn Monroe Hollywood CA 1962 by: Arnold Newman
The photographers style is to take profiles of people faces in black and white.
I chose this photo because it is taken from a different angle than most portraits.  It is more serious than other portraits as well.

Miley Cyrus for Vanity Fair by: Annie Leibovitz
This photographer took mostly pictures of celebrities in unusual positions and situations.  I chose this photo because it is a picture of a familiar celebrity but she looks much different than usual.  The artist has but her own spin on this person and has made them look unique and unusual.

History of photography

While creating this poster, I learned many things about the history of photography and the people who were involved in developing the photography world.  For example we learned that The first digital camera invented was built in 1975.  I also learned that introduced the Brownie Camera (a simple, low-priced, point-and-shoot camera) in 1900.  I also learned that Henry Fox Talbot he was not only a famous photographer but also also an acclaimed mathematician, astronomer, scientist and archaeologist.  The last thing I learned was that Lewis Hine also was critical in the changing of the country’s child labor laws.

Shadow

Because I did not have any natural shadows, I took this image in the evening with a lamp.  I had to place the lamp on the couch so the shadow from the ring would show up.   I had to place the camera very close to the ring so that it would focus.  I also did this so that it would not include anything in the background.

City of lights

Purpose:
  • To strengthen your creative problem-solving skills so that you are looking at things in a different way;
  • To find letters of the alphabet in everyday objects to create a word;
  • To become familiar with basic photoshop tools.

     This project has helped me to learn the basics of Photoshop which is very useful for editing photos in many different ways. I also learned to look at everyday objects a different way so that it looks like something else to a viewer. This made me look at things differently and really think about what I was seeing through my camera. This helps to be creative and innovative.
